"Woman" (2019), Directed by Yann Arthus-Bertrand, Anastasia Mikova, France, 108 min

What does it mean to be a woman? 2000 women from 50 different countries share their stories in front of the camera and talk about their experiences: from the most intimate to cultural. They touch on a wide range of issues: sexuality, marriage, motherhood, domestic violence, rape, freedom, enslavement, financial independence, body image, old age, love, anger, and wisdom. Despite the adversity and sometimes tragedies they have been through, they all look radiant because they finally have a chance to express themselves.

No matter where they come from or how old they are, their experiences resonate with each other, taking on universal meaning. The result is an intimate and emotional portrait of the women who make up half of humanity on Earth and yet continue to be subjected to violence and injustice. It is also a paean to their inner strength, resilience, and ability to defy the odds and positively change the world despite the difficulties they face. In the post #meetoo era, it is also an interesting look at the role and importance of women and their perception of the world. The film was shot over two and a half years and one of the directors is Yann Arthus-Bertrand, known to festival audiences for his film Man.
